Weekly Catch Up

Updated: Aug 12, 2023

Hello and welcome to the end of my week! Another week in the life of Bex books and stuff!

So this was the last four day week for at least a few more weeks! I've enjoyed having a few bank holidays but I'm not going to lie they do throw me out of a whack a little!

So this week has been a busy one at work, starting SATs and preparing some more science and history blocks. I'm excited about what the rest of my term will look like! My shoulder has been playing up again this week (after very stupidly moving furniture around in my classroom without help!) so I had to give choir a miss this week. Even talking hurt let alone standing and singing! I had recovered a little by Friday though and so I was able to go for a lovely walk with a friend. We enjoyed the outdoors and got our heart rates up! After that I treated myself to a 'date' I took myself for lunch and a cake. Sat with my kindle reading it was fabulous! The weather has been delightful this weekend so we enjoyed some time in the garden sorting out the hedge and flower bed. Also it was my sons first ever football match this morning which was such fun to watch. They are 6 and still learning but they did so well! We then had a lovely walk around Rother Valley Country Park and enjoyed the weather.

So this week I read 'The Ex Hex' by Emily Sterling. It was a really fun read and I enjoyed joining Vivi and Rhys' magical world. You can read my review over on Instagram. I have begun reading 'A midlife baby' by Cary J Hansson. I read the first of the trilogy 'A midlife Holiday' last year and enjoyed it so when I was offered the chance to read the next one I added it to my TBR. Her third one is out soon so I thought what better time to read this but before the last one appears.

We have been watching the Night Agent on Netflix. While it is no 24 and there are a few too many gaping plot holes it is a fun watch. We have also watched The Escape Room: Champion of Tournaments. Like the first one it was engaging and suspenseful, I found my body tensed for the majority of the film, it had a few predictable times and was a bit silly but enjoyable none the less. I have also started You season 4. I absolutely love Penn Badgley in this show, he is the serial killer you love to love! So creepy and dark and twisty, I hope this season is as good as the previous ones have been!

I have been enjoying episodes of The Shift with Sam Baker - she speaks with women of a certain age about life, love, careers, opinions and the menopause. The most reason one I listened to was with Ruby Wax and I found it very enlightening. I hadn't realised Ruby had such a history with mental health and depression issues. She was open and honest and I loved her frank candidness on all topics. This podcast is certainly worth a listen to as Sam has some really good guests who always have a lot to say. The episode with Nadiya Hussain was one of my favourites so far.

I keep having adverts for the Night Agent. Looks intriguing and if you say it is fun I shall check it out. Positive post!
